Crafting

Elizabeth Chapman

Have you ever given any though to why it’s called Witchcraft or “The Craft” to describe what we do when we write and perform ritual or cast a spell? Artists have been crafting gorgeous items for centuries and in medieval times they created specific Guilds that controlled how these techniques were taught. It took years of study and practice to learn to craft in a manner that created something amazing. Crafting can best be defined as the art of learning to transform something into something else. This is the essence of spellwork when you think about it; you generate your intent, add in some correspondences and a chant, raise energy working with Elements, Lunar or Solar Energies, the Genus Loci, Old Gods, and/or Ancestors, and send it out into the Universe to transform some part of yourself into something different and even more wonderful or as a way to get your personal needs (not wants) met. The process sounds simple when it’s written out here, but learning to combine the parts into a smoothly working whole takes study and practice. The biggest transformation when you put in the effort is that “The Craft” becomes Your Craft.
